Is there any tool that can tell me how many inbound links i have on blogs? I mean link pasting while blog commenting?

I have used “Backlink Watch” and this shows backlinks of 7, but when I look in SEO Quake it shows 26 backlinks and does not include any of the 7 shown with backlink watch.

This whole subject of backlinks is slowly screwing me up!

All you have to do is make sure that when you make the link back to your site, the part that is linked is the keyword you want to rank for. For instance, a lot of people will say “For great ______, click HERE” and the HERE part is their link. You don’t get any keyword value out of that at all… far better to phrase it so that your keyword is the part that is being linked.

What do you mean when you say ‘I can do a little linkbuilding for that keyword and URL and improve the rank.’

I’m a complete newbie, just curious how you link build for specific keywords?

Good point – I use the MarketLeap tool for a quick and dirty rough figure, but the LinkDiagnosis one really shines through when you start analyzing link quality. You can sort by PR and all kinds of other things. Pretty cool.

One note of caution: I had around 1700 backlinks, but when I checked them carefully, it turned out that around 1,000 of them were ‘scraper’ (spam) sites which would do nothing for my Google authority. So keep in mind that not all links are created equal.

Website Grader looks pretty cool - sort of a free, hosted version of iBusiness Promoter. I've also been using LinkDiagnosis.com recently. It seems to give a good level of detail.
